Login portals define the look and feel of the captive portal page used by end users to log in. Once defined, a login portal can be re-used by multiple gateways independent of the hardware type.

Basic Login Portal Layout
Basic Login Portal Layout

The basic login portal layout involves a number of elements: the portal title; language options; the Wireless Orbit "powered by" banner or ad; a greeting or message; the sign up link; the login form itself; and a toolbar. These are discussed in detail below. Refer to the basic login portal image to the right for an example.

Portal title
The text displayed at the top of the login portal screen. This text is defined by you on a portal-by-portal basis.
Language options
A list of language options. Your customers can click on the different language links to view the portal in different languages. Note that this only applies to the standard text that appears in the portal: "Sign Up", "Username", "Password", and so forth. Any text you enter (for example the portal title) will not be translated.
Wireless Orbit banner
This space is reserved by Wireless Orbit to display a Wireless Orbit "powered by" logo or other ad content. If you want to display your own ads or to have the Wireless Orbit banner removed, contact us for information.
Greeting or message
A text message to display to your customers. This text can contain HTML markup.
Sign up link
Clicking on this area will take users to the sign up page if you allow online signups on this portal.
Login form
This is where your customers actually enter their username and password.
Toolbar
The toolbar at the bottom of the portal contains the following links: Web Login is the login portal itself (useful from the other toolbar options); View Usage allows the user to enter their username and password to view their login history and remaining usage; Add Time allows the user to pay for more usage if the portal is configured to allow online signups; Report a problem allows the user to submit a trouble ticket. The Report a problem link will only be present if you've upgraded from the basic service.

In addition, there are currently two areas where custom images may be displayed in your login portals:

Logo image
This is a banner image that will be displayed between the Wireless Orbit banner and the greeting text. The expected image size is a standard leaderboard banner, which is 728x90 pixels.
Signup image
This is an image to be displayed in the signup link. The image will be both vertically and horizontally centered in the sign up link area, which will resize to fit the size of the browser window.

Images for use with your login portals can be uploaded via the login portal images page.

Signup Confirmation

If you wish to allow online signups but want to review each signup request before enabling the account you may use signup confirmation. If the Signup Confirmation Required option is enabled for a login portal, the signup process will be modified in the following ways:

  • A Sponsor Email Address blank will be added to the signup form
  • When a customer submits the signup form, an confirmation email message will be sent to the Sponsor Email Address
  • The confirmation email will be CC'd to the Confirmation Email Address given in the portal settings, and this address will be the return address on the message
  • The Confirmation Email Subject given in the portal settings will be used as the subject line for the confirmation email
  • The Confirmation Email Text given in the portal settings will be used as the body of the confirmation email. Information about the account will be automatically appended to the body of the message, including the customer's first and last name, the requested username, and the customer's email address (all as entered in the signup form)

Typically the Confirmation Email Address will be a service or support address in your organization. Since all confirmation emails are sent to this address, the person or persons monitoring this address can immediately activate the account if needed. Or they can wait for the third-party sponsor to reply to the message. The sponsor's response will go to the Confirmation Email Address.

Signup confirmation is currently only implemented for free accounts.
